Study Hall

Hi, my name is Mrs. Brown.  I will be your Study Hall teacher.  I teach 1st, 2nd, and 4th period Study Hall classes.  I am very excited to get to know you.  This class is designed to help you be more successful in school.  The first thing I ask for is a positive attitude.  I know that all students can be successful in school and I look forward to helping you with that.

The rules are simple.

1.  Be prepared.
2. Be respectful to yourself and others.
3.  Stay seated.
4.  Raise your hand.

There are rewards and consequences for following classroom rules.

REWARDS (the fun things)
prize box, computer time, free time, good grades, nice phone call home

CONSEQUENCES (the not so fun things)
behavior contracts, parent/teacher/student meetings, phone call home, visit with office, removal from Study Hall class

Materials Needed for Study Hall
Binder (one large enough for all your materials)
One folder for each class
Lined paper
Dozen pencils and pens
Colored pencils
Erasers
2 Highlighters
Book-you will be asked to read when finished with assignments

You can always e-mail me any questions you have.  I look forward to working with you this year!

Preparation for Middle School

I am so EXCITED for the school year to start!  I have been thinking about what a middle school student would need to know in order to be successful in school.  First, have a positive attitude.  Second, if you don't know or understand something, ask a peer or teacher.  Don't suffer in silence.  There are great people all around you that would love to help you out. Third, get the right materials.  It helps to be prepared with the right materials. (I will add a list at the end of the post).  Last, attend all your classes.  If you start a pattern of missing school, it is very hard to break that pattern.  Work starts builing up and can become very overwhelming.

Have a positive attitude and set goals for the year.  Middle school goes by so fast, enjoy the time you are there!

Materials Needed in Middle School:
Binder (most middle school students use the zip up kind)
Dividers-one for each class you have.
Lined paper-enough for your assignments.
Folders-one for each class (it is helpful to keep old assignments through the end of each quarter or term.  This way if your teacher misplaces your score for the assignment, you have proof of completion and a score.  This saves you a lot of time and frustration.)
A dozen pencils and pens
Erasers
Colored pencils
Two highlighters
Backpack
Scissors
Calculator-one that fits the requirements of your math class.
PLANNER-I love these for the middle school student.  Many schools will provide you with one.
Flash drive (a simple one will do to save word processing documents).
